The Moor of Broken Fangs
Battlefield: a foggy moor at dawn · 7 Oct 2026 · Ranked
Alpha Wolf Pack
A pack of 30 grey wolves led by a cunning alpha, hunting with coordinated flanking attacks and tireless stamina.
English Longbow Line
500 English longbowmen firing 10 arrows a minute from behind a line of sharpened wooden stakes, protected by 100 dismounted men-at-arms in plate armour.
ROUND 1 — THE ONLY ROUND
The grey shapes emerge from the fog—thirty wolves, muscles tense with hunger, bounding toward the line of stakes with the alpha's shriek splitting the dawn air. The English archers, calm behind their fortifications, draw as one; five thousand arrows darken the sky for a heartbeat before the fog swallows them. The wolves' coordinated flanking dissolves into chaos as shafts find flesh, and those who slip past the hail meet the unyielding pike-points and gauntleted fists of the men-at-arms, who despatch the wounded beasts with methodical brutality whilst the bowstring song continues without mercy.
» The alpha, its fur bristling with arrows, lunges at a dismounted sergeant—only to meet the point of a war-hammer that ends its reign in a single, sickening crunch.
THE WAR ORACLE'S VERDICT
This is a catastrophic mismatch. Whilst the wolves' vivid description of coordinated tactics and the foggy terrain offer tactical flavour, 30 wolves face 500 archers firing 5,000 arrows per minute from behind fortifications. Even at close range, a wolf pack has no defence against plate-armoured men-at-arms. The wolves' speed and cunning cannot overcome the firepower imbalance: a single volley from 500 longbows will kill or wound most of the pack before they reach the stakes. The fog helps concealment initially but does not negate arrows in flight or the sheer lethality of disciplined infantry in formation.
- Raw firepower disparity: 5,000 arrows per minute vs. teeth and claws
- Fortified position makes flanking useless
- Wolves have no defence against massed volleys or plate-armoured guards
- Pack tactics require mobility the longbowmen deny them
MVP: The English Longbow Line, masterclass in carnage
The moor falls silent save for the soft rain and the wounded whimpers fading into the fog. Thirty wolves lie scattered across the heather; not a single Englishman has fallen.
