The Moor of Shattered Fangs
Battlefield: a foggy moor at dawn · 7 Oct 2026 · Ranked
Alpha Wolf Pack
A pack of 30 grey wolves led by a cunning alpha, hunting with coordinated flanking attacks and tireless stamina.
English Longbow Line
500 English longbowmen firing 10 arrows a minute from behind a line of sharpened wooden stakes, protected by 100 dismounted men-at-arms in plate armour.
ROUND 1 — THE ONLY ROUND
Through the grey dawn mist, thirty grey shapes lope across the soggy moorland toward the English line, their alpha's confident snarl carrying across the heather—until five thousand arrows suddenly darken the sky in a single, terrible volley. The wolves shriek and scatter as shafts rain down with mechanical precision, each archer's fourth arrow still arcing upward as the first finds flesh; by the time the survivors realise the stakes are upon them, barely three beasts remain limping from the field, the moor behind them a grim carpet of silver fur and stillness.
» The alpha, gut-shot and gasping, collapses into the mud whilst a dismounted man-at-arms methodically drives his pole-axe downward.
THE WAR ORACLE'S VERDICT
This is a catastrophic mismatch. Whilst the wolves' vivid description of coordinated tactics and the foggy terrain offer tactical flavour, 30 wolves face 500 archers firing 5,000 arrows per minute from behind fortifications. Even at close range, a wolf pack has no defence against plate-armoured men-at-arms. The wolves' speed and cunning cannot overcome the firepower imbalance: a single volley from 500 longbows will kill or wound most of the pack before they reach the stakes. The fog helps concealment initially but does not negate arrows in flight or the sheer lethality of disciplined infantry in formation.
- Raw firepower disparity: 5,000 arrows per minute vs. teeth and claws
- Fortified position makes flanking useless
- Wolves have no defence against massed volleys or plate-armoured guards
- Pack tactics require mobility the longbowmen deny them
MVP: English archers—five thousand shafts, five minutes.
The wolf pack is annihilated in less than a minute. The moorland falls silent save for the ragged breathing of soldiers collecting their arrows.
